Lets start off with David Cameron, who was manipulated to call the referendum. It was quite obvious that somebody used that picture of him with the pig to take the piss out of the British attitude too. Who did it? It must have been either the Americans or the Europeans (not the middle easterners), because Brexit is about the American and European empires, as there is a struggle for dominance between the two at the moment. Think the story of Sparta and Athens.
This leads us to Brexit, the British were forced out to make a settlement between both sides of a militaristic nature, this being that Europe could potentially be invaded from the UK. This is why the UK has remained an ally of America. And Europes unification causes a threat to the americans, and in particulat their pride at being the biggest nation on earth. Imagine the democratic effect of that would have on the american people, just think Donald Trump, but again, with a concrete enemy.
Such huge empires can manipulate the democracies of smaller nations, this can be achieved my manipulating public' opinion through internet, a force now monopolised by well funded companies, and uses algorithms to specialise content to peoples likes and dislikes and personalities. Just look up AggregateIQ and the Vote Leave spending controversy (now also the Cambridge Analytica scandal). If you watch "Ian Hislop and the First Great Immigration Row" you will see that the immigration row is highly politicised and used to manipulate public opinion to achieve political goals. This opens to the idea that the impending European integration of the UK was not in the interest of some big nation - and don't be fooled, we are not a big nation when it comes to corporations, the entities who were responsible for the Leave Campaign, and the emissaries of the states.
Anyway, since the Europeans wanted a more powerful union, the americans want leverage. This contradicts the european mindset of solidarity and unity, and on top of this the Americans want a global monopoly on money, so they use institutions like the IMF as a control mechanism to attain american monetary control. Look up Noam Chomsky on this. These Americans also didn't want Europe to take the petrodollar, as this would make the Americans default and make Europe vastly stronger, but OPEC wanted to make oil transactions in euros, so this is a matter of national importance to the Americans. America also has a stronger army. They support this army with the petrodollar. It is of little consequence because it is likely they cant afford any kind of invasion of Europe, so they will settle for anything. Brexit is the byproduct, especially since the Europeans want this to happen anyway (we tried to block the formation of a united Europe, and most interestingly its army).
Maybe we could create a whole industry out of Brexit in the sense that isolation could build the country over the long term, but the damage would be greater than in 2008, according to Mark Blythe it would create a ten year recession. It stands to reason that we would want to keep a good deal when we need one, also the British are not as ready for Brexit as the two larger powers are. Besides the Euopeans are just clipping our wings, they want us to hand over enough of our political power to be able to guarantee we don't keep doing what the Americans want us to do.This is what the second referendum is about, except this time they will win, partly because there has been a department of the European union designated for making populations happier with the status quo in Europe, aiming at the younger generation in universities and colleges. The Europeans have a lot more control of public opinion than the British expected. It was not all about the democratic vote however, it was political, since Brexit was partly about the British being made to do a heinous act, but also because they wanted to make peace between warring sides, but the European wheels of empire are already turning, and likely will produce a stronger Europe, a handover of power, and a population that is highly politicised, for the worse and the better.

So far i have talked about the reasons for the governments side to brexit, but the people want to be acknowledged as well. They want an end to the amount of work we do in our lives, and an end to the form of capitalism we have, including how corporate entities and banks get so much money whilst we have to work doing menial tasks for a tiny amount of money. The wealth disparities, especially with the internet showing us what occurs in this respect, give us a reason not to hope. For the socialists, who lead this movement, it is not about government control, it is about corporate greed and control, in the sense that we dont get anywhere close to the resptrictions on maximum value for corporations and banks. They have so much extra money lying around and none of that goes to eradicating homlessness. We, for instance, have enough food for 10 billion people, more than the population of the world, and 1 in 9 are seriously malnourished. This does not exclude the UK, where people can easily be in poverty, we just spend our money, as a society, on things that do not reinvest in our future or in the people.
